I Spent 6 Months Posting Daily and Made Zero Sales - Here’s What I Learned

Okay, this one’s going to sting a little, but it needs to be said.
Last year, I had a client - let’s call her Anita - who was THE most consistent poster I’d ever seen. Every. Single. Day. For six months straight. Beautiful content, perfect timing, all the right hashtags.
Sales from social media? Zero.
When she came to me, frustrated and ready to quit social media altogether, I asked her one simple question: “What do you want people to DO after they see your posts?”
Her answer: “Um… like them?”
And there was our problem.
The Consistency Trap
Here’s what the “experts” don’t tell you: Posting consistently without a clear purpose is like showing up to work every day but not knowing what your job is.
You’re busy, you’re present, but you’re not productive.
I see this everywhere. Business owners following the “post daily” advice, burning themselves out creating content, but never asking the crucial question: “What’s the point of this post?”
The Missing Ingredient: Intent
Every post - and I mean EVERY single post - should have one clear intention:
• Educate: Teach something valuable
• Inspire: Motivate someone to take action
• Connect: Build a relationship
• Convert: Guide toward a purchase decision
If your post doesn’t fit into one of these categories, don’t post it.
What We Changed for Anita
Instead of posting daily pretty pictures, we shifted to posting 3 times a week with clear intent:
Monday: Educational post (industry tips)
Wednesday: Behind-the-scenes with a lesson
Friday: Customer story or testimonial
Each post had a clear call-to-action:
• “DM me if you have questions about this”
• “Save this post if you found it helpful”
• “Share your experience in the comments”
• “Visit my website to learn more”
The Results Were Insane
Within 30 days:
• Her DMs increased by 300%
• Website traffic from social media jumped 150%
• She got her first 3 sales from Instagram
• Her engagement rate went from 2% to 8%
But here’s the kicker - she was posting LESS frequently than before.
The Intentional Content Framework
Before you create any content, ask yourself:
1. What’s my goal with this post?
2. What problem does this solve for my audience?
3. What do I want people to do after seeing this?
4. How does this connect to my business goals?
If you can’t answer these questions clearly, don’t post it.
Real Talk: Quality vs. Quantity
I’d rather you post twice a week with clear intention than post daily with no purpose.
Here’s why:
Intentional posting:
• Builds trust and authority
• Drives actual business results
• Creates engaged communities
• Converts followers to customers
Random posting:
• Creates content fatigue
• Confuses your audience
• Wastes your time
• Gets you nowhere
The 3-Post Rule
If you’re overwhelmed, start with just 3 posts per week:
Post 1: Answer a common customer question
Post 2: Share a behind-the-scenes moment with a lesson
Post 3: Highlight a customer success or testimonial
Each post should have a clear call-to-action that moves people closer to buying from you.
Your Homework
Look at your last 10 posts. For each one, write down:
• What was the purpose?
• What action did you want people to take?
• Did it contribute to your business goals?
I bet you’ll find that most of your posts don’t have clear answers to these questions. That’s okay - now you know what to fix.
The Uncomfortable Truth
Consistent posting without strategy is just expensive journaling.
Your social media should work FOR your business, not just exist alongside it.
What Anita Says Now
Six months later, Anita’s business has grown 200%. Her social media consistently drives leads and sales. And she spends less time on it than when she was posting daily.
Her advice? “Stop trying to post every day. Start trying to help someone every day.”
Your turn: What’s one way your posts could be more intentional? What’s one clear action you want people to take after seeing your content?
