Hey there! 👋
Can I be brutally honest with you for a minute?
Last week, I had a coffee chat with Priya, who runs a beautiful handicrafts business. She pulled out her phone, showed me her Instagram with 5,000 followers, and said, “Samridhi, I have all these followers, but my sales are still terrible. What am I doing wrong?”
And that’s when it hit me - we’ve all been sold this lie that more followers = more money.
Let me tell you something that might shock you: One of my most successful clients has only 800 Instagram followers, but she made ₹3 lakhs in revenue from social media last month. Want to know her secret?
She stopped chasing vanity metrics and started tracking what actually matters.
The Metrics That Pay Your Bills
Here’s what successful business owners track (and what you should too):
Instead of follower count, track: How many people visited your website from social media
Instead of likes, track: How many people actually inquired about your servicesInstead of reach, track: How many qualified leads you generated
I remember when Kiran (one of my boutique clients) made this shift. She went from obsessing over her daily follower count to focusing on driving website traffic. Result? Her online sales jumped 40% in two months, even though her follower growth actually slowed down.
The Reality Check Question
Before you post anything today, ask yourself: “Will this post help someone solve a problem or make a decision about my business?”
If the answer is no, don’t post it. I know, I know - this might mean posting less frequently. But trust me, one valuable post that drives three inquiries is worth more than ten pretty pictures that get 50 likes but zero business impact.
Your Action Plan (Takes 10 Minutes)
1. Right now, go to your Google Analytics and check how much website traffic came from social media last month
2. Count how many actual business inquiries you got through social media
3. Calculate your social media conversion rate: (Inquiries ÷ Profile Visits) × 100
If these numbers are low, don’t panic. You’re not alone, and more importantly, you now know what to fix.
What’s Next?
Next week, I’m sharing the exact content formula we use at The Social Minder that turns followers into paying customers. It’s not about being salesy - it’s about being genuinely helpful in a way that naturally leads to business.
But here’s my challenge for you this week: Post only content that serves your ideal customer. Every single post should either educate, inspire, or help them make a decision.
What questions do your customers ask you most often? Turn those into posts. What problems do you solve daily? Share those stories. What mistakes do you see people making in your industry? Help them avoid those.
Question for you: What’s one business metric you’ve been ignoring that you know you should track? Drop it in the comments - let’s help each other get focused on what actually moves the needle.
Remember, followers don’t pay your bills. Customers do. 💰
